Have an HVAC-related question? We have the answer! Check out our FAQs below to learn more about our company and services.

  • How do I know if I need a new heating and air conditioning unit?

Typically, most units have a lifespan of 10-15 years. It may be best to start considering a new unit to help with energy efficiency, how well it heats and cools your home, and the overall costs of furnace and AC repairs.

  • Does Ahrens & Condill Inc offer emergency heating and air conditioning services?

For both AC and furnace repair, we offer service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

  • Why doesn't my furnace or air conditioner work?

Contact us to take a look at your system and perform the necessary troubleshooting steps to determine the issue. Trying to perform repairs yourself can put both you and your system at risk. Leave your furnace and AC repairs to a certified professional.

  • How often should I replace my heating and air filters?

To avoid future furnace and AC repairs, we recommend having your filters replaced every 1 to 3 months depending on the usage. This can help with the performance of your unit and overall indoor air quality. Check your filter every month, especially during heavy use months (winter and summer). If the filter looks dirty after a month, change it. At a minimum, change the filter every 3 months. A dirty filter will slow down air flow and make the system work harder to keep you warm or cool, wasting energy (according to Energy Star).

  • How often should I service my air conditioner or furnace?

We recommend having your systems serviced before the start of each heating or cooling season. At the very least, you should have it serviced annually to minimize furnace repair later on.

  • Should I install a programmable thermostat?

Using a programmable thermostat, you can regulate your home’s temperature by time of day and many newer thermostats connect to your home’s Wi-Fi, allowing you to manage your home’s temperature remotely with an app on your smartphone or one of the smart devices, like Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant or Apple Home.  These are much more efficient and accurate than the old-style thermostats that use mercury switches.

  • How can I reduce my energy costs?

Regular maintenance by a trained technician can keep your system operating at its top performance.  Zoning systems enable you to heat or cool only specific areas of your home, so you won’t have to pay to heat or cool spaces that aren’t used.  Using programmable thermostats allows you to set the temperature in your home around your schedule.  They can be programmed to give you the comfort you desire when your home and increase or decrease the temperature while you’re not around, helping you save on utility costs.  Also, upgrading to a newer system with high-efficiency ratings that have receive Energy Star® certification or achieved high SEER ratings.

  • What can I do to improve my home’s indoor air quality (IAQ)?

Proper insulation is good for keeping your home warm in the winter and cool in the summer, but it also makes it difficult for airborne pollutants to escape.  We carry products that help swap stale air for fresh, filtered outside air.  Good ventilation and ongoing cleaning are a good start, but air filters and purification systems take your IAQ to the next level by capturing microscopic particles, killing germs, and getting rid of particles while destroying chemical vapors.  Programmable thermostats will help control the humidity levels and temperature to help prevent particles and germs from building up while also keeping your home comfortable.

  • If I replace my Air Conditioner, do I also need to replace my Furnace?

We advise you to replace both systems because both systems are intended to work together to ensure efficient performance.  As with a lot of products, advancements have brought about newer, more efficient ways of doing things.  Heating and cooling systems are no different.  These improvements most importantly include greater heating and cooling efficiency, but also consist of improved air handling, filter in and noise pollution reduction.  When they aren’t paired efficiency can be affected.  Any system that is mor than 10-15 years old normally need to be replaced.  Not only do they have outdated technology, but they are also less efficient than more recent models.

  • Does Ahrens & Condill offer a Maintenance program?
